Italian prime minister claims the only way to peace between Ukraine and Russia is military assistance to Kyiv
EUROPEAN PRAVDA - WEDNESDAY, 26 OCTOBER 2022, 20:39 Giorgia Meloni, the Italian prime minister, said during a speech in the Senate on Wednesday that she supports the continuation of military assistance to Ukraine as the only condition for the possible achievement of peace between Kyiv and Moscow. This is reported by European Pravda, citing ANSA [Italy's leading news agency - ed.].
"From time immemorial, the only way to facilitate negotiations in conflicts has been to establish a balance. If you don't want to tell me that peace is achieved by capitulation, then peace is achieved by continuing to support Ukraine, allowing it to defend itself," Meloni said.
She stressed that even if Italy refused military support for Ukraine, the West would continue to help. "Therefore, it would not change the result for Ukraine, but it would change the approach that others will have to us, to our trustworthiness, our reliability, even at the commercial level," the Italian prime minister explained. Meloni noted that Italy's exports to Russia account for about 1% of its total exports, whereas its exports to Western countries represent 80%.
"With our decisions regarding Ukraine, we decide the fate of Italy," she concluded.

Giorgia Meloni is Italy's first female prime minister. Despite the fact that Meloni leads a coalition of far-right and right parties that came to power in the country for the first time since the beginning of World War II, she stressed her continued support for Ukraine.
In her first address to the Italian Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday, Meloni said that Rome will not succumb to Putin's blackmail on energy and will remain a partner to Ukraine.
