During the de-occupation of the territory of the Kherson region previously captured by the Russians, the Ukrainian military destroyed their long-range artillery systems. A photo capturing the destroyed system and a video featuring the destructing of another 203mm self-propelled gun was published on social media. The published images do not allow to accurately determine whether these were 2S7 Pion self-propelled guns or its modernized 2S7M Malka versions.

The recently published pictures show a completely destroyed artillery system, which the Ukrainian military neutralized during the liberation of the Kherson region. The Russian self-propelled gun was struck in the village on the road near the houses. Next to it, a Ural-4320 truck was also destroyed.

The affected artillery system was discovered near Berislav.

Also, the Defense Forces servicemen released a video that recorded the destruction of another 2S7 long-range self-propelled gun.

The exact hit of the Russian artillery installation location indicates the likely use of precision ammunition to destroy it. The Russian invaders placed their ACS in a camouflaged position in the forest, trying to disguise from Ukrainian reconnaissance drones behind the trees.

However, judging by the video, they failed, and their positions were discovered by the Ukrainian military. The Russian 2S7 was hit by an accurate artillery strike.

The video footage shows the fire which started upon strike, and the propellant charges and ammunition stored in the disguised position of the Russians likely started to burn.

A gun barrel is a free pipe connected to a breech containing a piston gate. Gun barrel and anti-recoil devices are positioned in the cradle of the wobbly part.

The weight of one projectile for a 2S7 Pion high-power gun is 110 kg.

The firing range with a rocket-assisted projectile is up to 46 km, and for the conventional - up to 37.5 km. The undercarriage of the 2S7 is made on the basis of the T-80 main tank and consists of seven pairs of double charred support rollers and six pairs of single support rollers.

The 2S7M`s chassis was refined as part of the project.

The general mobility was increased, and the system's operation was simplified. The self-propelled gun received a new 840hp V-84B diesel engine with the ability to use various types of fuel. The new engine gave an increase in power at the level of 60hp.

The use of a number of new systems allowed reducing the gun's crew. Operation of the base "Pion" relied on seven crew members, while "Malka" is managed by only six.
