Norway to spend €14.5 million on financing EU training mission for Ukraine

Norway will allocate NOK 150 million or EUR14.5 million to finance the EU training mission for the Ukrainian military. This was announced on the website of the Norwegian government. Thus, the country supports the decision to introduce training for 15,000 military personnel of Ukraine, which was initiated in the EU.

"For the security of Norway and Europe, it is important that Russia does not win the war against Ukraine. Ukrainian forces are waging an important battle for democracy and justice," the country's Defense Minister Bjorn Arild Gram commented on the decision.

Norway's aim is to support the operational budget of the mission.

The training process will be flexible and scalable to assist Ukraine depending on its needs. The funds allocated by Norway will go to the European Peace Fund. Also, the Norwegian government will partially finance the transfer of a field hospital to Ukraine from Estonia.

It is noted that the Ministry of Defense of Estonia has asked Norway and other allies to finance the purchase of field hospitals and equipment. At the same time, the Estonian side will train Ukrainian specialists.

Norway will provide EUR4.3 million for the implementation of this initiative. This is half of the required cost. "The Ukrainian military has benefited greatly from the field hospitals that have already been handed over, and the Ukrainian authorities have encouraged Estonia to donate more.

I am pleased that Norway can contribute to the construction of the third hospital, which will be handed over to Estonia. It is important that Western countries unite to receive urgent donations to support Ukraine," Gram said.

Another EUR2.9 million are allocated for the equipment of ambulance buses. These are 5 buses, which are equipped with stretchers, medical equipment, including for breathing support, equipment for monitoring the work of the heart and blood pressure. They function as a mobile intensive care unit with five beds.

Previously, Norway had already handed over five such civilian vehicles. As previously reported, Norway handed over a new batch of military aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
