Stoltenberg explains why NATO cannot allow Putin to win

Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary General of NATO, has stated that in the event of Russia's victory in the full-scale war against Ukraine, the world will have to pay a much higher price because authoritarian leaders of different countries will receive a "green light" to use brute force. Source: European Pravda, referring to Stoltenberg at the Bucharest Forum organised by the Aspen Institute on Tuesday; NATO website "We are all paying a price for Russia's war against Ukraine.

But the price we pay is in money. While the price Ukrainians pay is in blood," said the Secretary General of the Alliance. "If we let Putin win, all of us will pay a much higher price, for many years to come.

Because then the lesson learned by President Putin and other authoritarian leaders is that they can achieve their goals by using brute force. So they will be emboldened to use even more force once again. That will make our world more dangerous.

And all of us more vulnerable," he said. As Stoltenberg states, that is why NATO's long-term security interest is to support Ukraine.

He also emphasised that if the aggressor wins this war, there can be no lasting peace. "We know that most wars end at the negotiating table.

But what happens at the negotiating table is inextricably linked to what happens on the battlefield. Therefore, to create the conditions for lasting peace, which ensures that Ukraine prevails as an independent sovereign state, we must continue to provide military support to Ukraine," said the NATO Secretary General. "So our message from Bucharest is that NATO will continue to stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes.

We will not back down," he emphasised.

On 29-30 November, Bucharest is hosting a meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of NATO countries, where they are expected to adopt new decisions to support Ukraine. Baltic and Northern Europe countries have already announced that at the meeting they will call on the allies to increase supplies of weapons to Ukraine.

On the eve of the meeting of ministers of NATO countries, Dmytro Kuleba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, stated that the Alliance countries urgently need to boost weapons production, as it would not be possible to win on the battlefield in the longer term without investing in making more weapons.
