The New York Times writes about this. Ukrainian troops fire thousands of shells at Russian occupiers daily, using cannons provided by the United States and its allies. These weapons are disabled after months of heavy use or damaged or destroyed during combat, so dozens of artillery systems need repair, according to the US and Ukrainian officials.
A third of roughly 350 Western-made howitzers handed over to Ukraine are out of service, according to the Pentagon.

However, repairing artillery in the field is difficult, so the issue of restoring equipment has become a priority for the European Pentagon Command. For these needs, a repair center was created in Poland. Previously unreported artillery repairs have begun in the recent months.
The US military officials do not disclose the details of the program, but monitor the state of the transferred weapons carefully. "With every capability we give to Ukraine, and those our allies and partners provide, we work to ensure that they have the right maintenance sustainment packages to support those capabilities over time," Lt. Cmdr.
Daniel Day, a spokesman for the US European Command, said in a statement. Ammunition for Soviet-made Ukrainian guns firing 152mm shells became scarce after the Russian full-scale invasion. Therefore, howitzers firing 155mm shells have become one of the most important weapons for Ukraine on the battlefield.

The Pentagon has sent to Ukraine 142 ?777 155mm towed howitzers. The Ukrainian military used them to defeat the Russian invasion forces, as well as command posts with a small number of precision shells and to remotely install anti-tank minefields.

The United States, as part of the international technical assistance program, has already provided Ukraine with more than a million ammunition for howitzers. Ukraine also received 155mm artillery shells from other countries.
