Lithuania to expand the training of the Ukrainian military in 2023

The Ministry of Defense of Lithuania reported about this. On December 23, the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania unanimously adopted an amendment to the resolution regarding deployment of the Lithuanian armed forces in international operations, which had been urgently introduced by the President of the Republic of Lithuania at the proposal of the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Foreign affairs. This regards the increase of Lithuania's support for the training of the Ukrainian military.

The resolution sets the legal basis and the maximum number of military and civilian personnel that can be attached to the new EU Military Assistance Mission Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine) and international Operation Interflex for training Ukrainian military personnel in the United Kingdom.

Photo credits: General Staff of the Armed Forces of UkraineUp to 40 and up to 25 Lithuanians will be able to join EUMAM and Operation Interflex, respectively. According to the same resolution, the Lithuanian military training operation for Ukrainians approved in 2017 can be conducted in EU and NATO member states as well, if they invite Lithuanian military instructors to participate in the exercises of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on their territory.
In total, up to 60 Lithuanian military and civilian personnel will be able to participate in this operation.

1,500 troops of Ukraine, and 1,100 of them in Lithuania. Part of the training planned in 2023 will be conducted under the newly created mission of the European Union (EUMAM Ukraine) for military support to Ukraine.
It is planned that 15 thousand troops of Ukraine are to undergo training in EU member states.

Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled guns for Ukraine are also being repaired in Lithuania.
Moreover, the country provides the Ukrainian Defense Forces with ammunition, clothing and other necessary weapons and equipment.
