Rocket attack on the capital, an investigation has started.
Under the procedural leadership of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation has been initiated in criminal proceedings for violation of the laws and customs of war (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). According to the investigation, on December 31, 2022, the armed forces of the Russian Federation, in violation of the norms of international humanitarian law, attacked civilian and other infrastructure objects in the territory of Kyiv with rockets. According to preliminary data, an elderly man was killed as a result of rocket fire, and about 20 people, including a journalist-photographer from Japan, were injured.
The condition of some victims is serious. Information on victims is being clarified. As a result of the attack, two hotels, residential buildings, buildings of two schools, a kindergarten, private households, and citizens' cars were damaged.
Windows were broken in the building of the Palace of Ukraine and in the houses adjacent to the places where the shots were fired.
Emergency and rescue services and investigation and operational teams are working at the scene.
Pre-trial investigations in criminal proceedings are carried out by investigators of the State Security Service of Ukraine in the city of Kyiv and the Kyiv region.
