Canadian Defence Minister announces passage of 200 Senator APCs to Ukraine
Anita Anand, Canadian Defence Minister, is visiting Kyiv; she has announced that her country will hand over 200 Senator APCs (armoured personnel carriers) to Ukraine. This aid is valued at over £90 million and is allocated as part of the additional £500 million in military aid for Ukraine announced by Prime Minister Trudeau in November 2022," the statement said. Details: Senator APCs are equipped with state-of-the-art, best-in-class technology, and weapons can easily be mounted on them. These vehicles allow for the safe transport of personnel and equipment, and medical evacuations.
Minister Anand announced this news alongside her Ukrainian counterpart, Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov, with whom she held a productive bilateral meeting.
During their meeting, Minister Anand and Minister Reznikov discussed how Canada can continue to meet Ukraine's pressing defence needs. Reznikov commended Canada for the over US£1 billion in military assistance committed to Ukraine since February 2022. This assistance includes a National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) with associated munitions, 39 armoured combat support vehicles, anti-tank weapons, M777 Howitzers and associated ammunition, and more.
The Senator APC has a steel body and glass capable of withstanding shots from a 50-calibre weapon. Senator also has an explosion-proof body, so it can withstand the detonation of a grenade or a mortar bomb. The car's tires have a Run Flat system with on-the-go inflation.
