Photos released of ice rink in Druzhkivka destroyed by Russian attack

A missile attack conducted by the Russians on 2 January destroyed the ice rink and damaged the buildings of the MAN Hotel, the bus station, a church, a residential building and outbuildings in the city of Druzhkivka. As a result, the ice rink was destroyed, and the MAN hotel building, the bus station, a church, a residential building, and outbuildings were damaged. One person was injured. Radio Liberty has posted pictures and videos of Serhii Horbatenko showing what the Altair Ice Rink looks like after the attack by the Russian troops and the fire caused by the hit.

 

Recently, the rink has been operating as a humanitarian warehouse.

Altair has been the home rink for the Donbas Ice Hockey Club since 2014. The largest children's and youth sports school for ice hockey and figure skating operating in Ukraine was based there.

The arena has hosted Ukrainian championships, international competitions, and mass cultural events, and it was a favourite place of recreation for Druzhkivka residents and visitors. Donbas Ice Hockey Club notes: "This is the third home that the Donetsk club has lost because of the Russian occupiers: the Druzhba (Friendship) Palace of Sports in Donetsk, Mariupol Ice Centre, and now Altair."
