Russians cannot start up any power unit of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant

Due to the refusal of part of the Ukrainian staff of the Zaporizhzhia NPP to cooperate with the occupiers, as well as the lack of their own personnel, the Russians can neither start up nor operate the plant's power units. Source: Energoatom, Ukraine's nuclear power company, on Telegram "The Russians drove themselves into a staff shortage by blocking access to the station to almost 1,500 Ukrainian employees of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, who refused to receive Russian passports and sign a contract with the illegitimate 'JSC Operating Organisation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP', or another Rosatom [a Russian state nuclear company - ed.] subsidiary.

In order to improve their own situation, the invaders are looking for 'new' nuclear experts for the Zaporizhzhia NPP on the territory of the Russian Federation and are ready to resettle future workers in the nationalised, or more precisely, forcibly taken, apartments of Enerhodar citizens, who left the occupied city," stated Energoatom.

In addition, the gradual degradation of specialised equipment, which the occupiers caused by their mismanagement due to non-compliance with the required temperature regime, also hinders the launch of the units. At the same time, the occupiers continue to erect fortifications and build military structures around the power units of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and the dry storage of spent nuclear fuel. "Such actions of the Russians are categorically unacceptable and violate all existing norms of nuclear and radiation safety.

Once again, we call on the world community to facilitate the withdrawal of the Russian military from the territory of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and Enerhodar as soon as possible, to demilitarise the plant and bring full control over it to Ukraine! This will save the world not only from a nuclear, but also from a large-scale environmental disaster!" the Ukrainian state company emphasised. Background: After the liberation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP and its satellite city of Enerhodar, Ukrainian special forces will need at least two months to clear all the explosive devices.
