US don’t see signs of misuse of American funds in Ukraine
The United States has no evidence of misuse of US funds in Ukraine, but will continue to work closely with Ukrainian authorities to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to prevent corruption. This is stated in the response of the US Treasury Ministry to the request of the Reuters news agency, which is quoted by European Pravda. "We have no indications that US funds have been misused in Ukraine.
We welcome the ongoing efforts of the Ukrainian authorities to work with us to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place that US assistance reaches those for whom it is intended," reads the comment by Megan Apper, the spokeswoman of the department. She added that the US Treasury would continue to work closely with the World Bank, as well as with Ukraine and other partners, to track US funds "to confirm that they are being used as intended."
Reuters notes that as of December 2022, the World Bank has allocated more than £13 billion to Ukraine within the framework of the Public Expenditures for Strengthening Administrative Capacity in Ukraine program, a large part of which came from the United States. Funds from the PEACE program are paid to the Ukrainian authorities a month after the bank's employees are satisfied that it has paid teachers' and civil servants' salaries, as well as pension payments.
As it became known recently, the US has created an institution for monitoring and investigating the illegal actions of fraudsters and corrupt officials that are using the American people's assistance for Ukraine during Russia's full-scale invasion.
