Blinken met with Sandu and expressed concern about Russia’s attempts to destabilise Moldova
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Friday that the US is "deeply concerned" by Russia's efforts to destabilise the government of Moldova. He said this at a Munich Security Conference meeting with the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, writes European Pravda. "We are deeply concerned about some of the attempts we are seeing from Russia to destabilise the government," Blinken said.
"We strongly support Moldova in matters of its security, independence, territorial integrity and very important reform efforts made by the president and the government," he added.
Sandu called 2022 "an incredibly difficult year for Moldova" and thanked the US for its support in overcoming numerous challenges, including in energy, economy and security. Background: Sandu said on 13 February that Russia is planning attacks on government buildings and a change of leadership in Moldova with the help of opposition protests and with the involvement of the military, as well as citizens of Russia, Belarus, Serbia and Montenegro. In response, Belgrade demanded that Moldova prove that "Kremlin Plan" wanted to use sabouters from Serbia.
