This was announced on Friday, February 17, by Polish President Andrzej Duda in an interview with Ukrinform. According to the Polish leader, if you regard the issue of providing Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets without emotions, then the training of pilots for them will be a long process. "The training of Ukrainian pilots requires long months of training, there is no doubt about this," said Duda.

Instead, if Ukraine is given MiG-29 or, for example, Su-type aircraft, then Ukrainian pilots are "ready to fly them almost immediately".

"They could actually just fly home straight away on them. Therefore, no doubt, if the MiG-29s are transferred, they will be able to immediately strengthen the protection of Ukraine, and this is very important.

Of course, very few NATO countries have MiG jets. We still have several such aircraft, and we will consider this issue," said the President of Poland. According to Duda, there is an "issue" in Poland providing F-16 fighters to Ukraine, since they are "simply not enough in Poland, taking into account the scale and overall potential of the country."

However, in the event of a coalition to transfer F-16 fighters, the country is ready to join it.

"This is a difficult moment for us, because we ourselves expect aircraft. Of course, if a broad aviation coalition is created among NATO countries, then we will certainly also join it," Duda said. He added that decisions on which formula this would happen was to be discussed with allies.

It should be recalled that this month it became known that the Slovak authorities were ready to transfer MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine, which had already been removed from service.
