Latvia donates seized drunk drivers’ cars to Ukrainian army
Latvia handed over cars that were confiscated from drunk drivers for the needs of the Ukrainian army. The Latvian government has decided to hand over eighteen more cars confiscated from drunken Latvian drivers to army units, medical institutions, and local self-governments of Ukraine free of charge. According to the law passed last week, confiscated vehicles can be handed over free of charge to the government of Ukraine to eliminate the consequences of the war-related emergency and to support Ukrainian society.
This is another way in which Latvia helps Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression. "The government decided to hand over 18 more confiscated cars to the state institutions of Ukraine free of charge," the statement reads. Part of the vehicles will be transferred to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, including military units.

"In Latvia, we know the importance of independence and democracy, so we should continue to support Ukraine with all our might. Any help, big or small, brings Ukraine closer to victory in Russia's cruel and unjust full-scale war," said Karina Plok, the parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of Finance of Latvia. It is reported that the owners are not compensated and this makes their decision to get behind the wheel extremely expensive.
It also encourages citizens in other countries to call on their governments to make similar decisions. The Prime Minister of Latvia, Krisjanis Karins, believes that after the end of hostilities, Ukraine should become a member of NATO with all the security guarantees that follow. He noted that while the hostilities are ongoing, no one in NATO will seriously consider Ukraine's accession, as this would immediately involve the entire alliance in the war that Russia is waging in Ukraine.

"But in the end, with our joint and unwavering support, Ukraine will achieve its goals," Karins believes. However, in his opinion, a victorious Ukraine will still leave Russia whole and intact, with an unchanged imperialist bias, under the rule of an aggressive and authoritarian government. "The only option that guarantees that Russia will be able to be restrained is the full accession of the liberated Ukraine to the NATO alliance, together with all the security guarantees that follow from this," the Latvian Prime Minister claims.
