Meghan Markle and Prince Harry ‘on path’ to insignificance and unhappiness

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have been warned they are on a path that will lead to them being "very unhappy and insignificant" in the future. A royal commentator even drew parallels with Harry's ancestor Edward VIII and his wife Wallis Simpson. Edward famously abdicated in 1936 so he could marry American divorcee Simpson the next year.

It provoked one of the most dangerous constitutional crises in British history and opened a path for Harry's grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, to eventually become the head of state. The couple were handed the titles of Duke and Duchess of Windsor after Edward stepped down but the pair fell into obscurity after moving to France. Edward watched the Queen's Coronation on TV in Paris and although they continued to meet their family on occasion, they never held the prestige they once did.

The pair have also moved abroad to the US and question marks remain over whether they will attend the Coronation of Harry's dad King Charles.

Their popularity has declined not only in the UK, which they left in 2020, but also in America where Meghan has been trying to carve a new life for herself. Quinn, who has written the likes of 'Scandals of the Royal Palaces: An Intimate Memoir of Royals Behaving Badly' and 'Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir from Queen Mary to Meghan Markle', told GB News: "My fear is that Harry will become like Edward VIII and Meghan will become like Mrs Simpson.

"They lived in this beautiful house in France, but we know they were desperately unhappy. Edward VIII was a bit like King Lear, where he gives away all his power, but somehow thinks he can still exercise power through his children.

"I think Edward VIII, when he abdicated and went to live in France, thought he would still be an important figure. And he was for a little while, in the same way that Meghan and Harry are kind of significant now because there's so much coverage and commentary about them. "But that will fade and, unless they can escape all this negative stuff and find something positive that people are interested in, they will become insignificant in the way that Edward VIII became insignificant and very unhappy."
