3-year-old daughter of migrant worker run over by truck in Pune

"Everything happened in a few seconds, we are still in shock". Six years ago, Jaysingh Yadav (28) shifted to Pune from Prayagraj in UP to find work as a labourer at the Market Yard. On Wednesday, his journey to secure a better life for his family of five was derailed after his three-year-old daughter Poonam was run over by a speeding truck at the yard.

15 at the yard when a speeding truck knocked her down around 4.30 pm on Monday. The girl was rushed to a hospital where she was pronounced dead by the doctors. "We shifted to Pune[1] for employment about six years ago.

Since then, I have been working as a labourer in Market Yard. My daughter left home and went on the road and all of a sudden she was hit by the truck," said Yadav, Poonam's father, before breaking down in tears. Poonam is survived by her parents and two brothers.

After registering an FIR[2] on Yadav's complaint, the police arrested the truck driver Bharat Sabale on charges of negligent driving. "Further probe is on," said Sub Inspector Chetan Bhosale, the investigation officer in the case.
