The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sent shockwaves around the world with their decision to denounce the royal family. Having no longer been able to keep up with the growing tension within the royal household, Prince Harry played the hard ball to call it quits with what he calls The Institution. As the entire world watched the age-old royal family split into two, close associates were flabbergasted. One of the closest friends of the Palace, prominent singer Sir Elton John, was also one of them, even though he had seen it coming.

Known for their special ties with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the music Titan has always been well-updated about whatever is going on behind closed doors.

Word was it that at a point, he was considered to be "Prince Harry's rock and constant support" in times of turmoil and chaos. Although he was well aware that Sussex's days at the Palace were limited, he had no idea that Prince Harry would make the call abruptly.  As reported exclusively by Daily Mail, a spokesperson for the Candle in the Wind singer affirmed that the Megxit "came as a surprise to him." The aide also added that the first time the singer got to know about the present family split was through their social media announcement on Instagram.

Why was Elton John shocked at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle?

Prince Harry giving up on his UK Sovereigns came into immediate effect after a high-stakes crisis summit at the Queen's Sandringham.

While the Duke joined Prince Charles, Prince William, and Kate Middleton for the heated back and forth, the Duchess joined in through the phone from Canada. Prince Harry has also claimed that the same discussion also led to a physical altercation between him and Prince William as he knocked him down on the ground into a dog bowl.

It was after this summit that Prince Harry knew he could no longer live with his family members.

As a matter of course, Sir Elton John had a brief idea of things going south. However, he was not unaware of the immediate cause that led to the cut-off.

The singer grew close to the Sussexes, owing to his "dear" friendship with their late mother, Princess Diana. Both the icons were said to be close acquaintances with everyone in the family involved.

Years later, the singer has now stood for Princess Diana's youngest in the already famous ANL court case.
