King Charles not 'obsessing' over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
King Charles is not "obsessing" over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and is "just getting on with it", Gyles Brandreth the author of Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait has told Page Six. The British broadcaster claims His Majesty is not tormented by the royal family rift or preoccupied with it the way the rest of the world is. "I don't think they [Charles and Queen Camilla] are obsessing about it the way that we are," Mr Brandreth told the United States publication.
"They are just getting on with it." The BBC radio personality said Charles' first speech as King proves he is content to let the Duke and Duchess of Sussex live their own lives across the Atlantic. "He sort of made the situation clear and wished Harry and Meghan love and well, as they build their life overseas," Mr Brandreth said.
"So, you know, in this country, I think we've accepted well, that's what they're doing." Harry will only be returning to the United Kingdom next month for a "fleeting visit" a source has told The Mirror, with the duke set to make an early exit to return home to California as soon as his father is crowned. "After much back and forth, Harry said that he would be returning for the King's Coronation but it will only be a fleeting visit," the insider told the British publication.
"Organisers have been told Harry won't be attending the concert with the rest of the Royal Family, which is a great shame as it will be such a spectacular event." Another major factor in Harry not sticking around longer, is believed to be the 38-year-old's well publicised security concerns, after he lost his 24/7 armed police protection in the UK following Megxit. Meantime, with Harry reportedly planning to snub all of his dad's coronation celebrations, the King is now scrapping plans to honour Archie's fourth birthday during his coronation lunch speech.
Charles was intending to raise a toast to his grandson's fourth birthday during the coronation Big Lunch, but a royal insider told the Mail on Sunday that His Majesty has now ditched the idea.
"The King considered a toast to Archie," the source told the publication.
"But with no member of the Sussex family now due at the lunch, it is highly unlikely he would do it in their absence."
