Man swinging long stick around sparks police play park appeal

An incident was reported at the Isle of Wight play park on Ryde Esplanade. (Image: Google maps/CP.) An incident at an Isle of Wight play park has led to an appeal for witnesses. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary[1] is investigating a report a man entered the play park on Ryde Esplanade, carrying a long stick, which he swung around, causing members of the public to leave the park in fear.

It happened at 2.25pm on Saturday 15 April, police said. The man then walked off towards Ryde canoe lake.

A 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of common assault, possession of an offensive weapon, and possession of cannabis. He was bailed with conditions until July 15.

Police enquiries continue.
