Manhunt launched for people smuggler with Northern Ireland links

Police in Liverpool have issued an appeal for help to find a 'wanted' man jailed for people smuggling. Gavin Charters was jailed in 2020 after trying to get two Vietnamese migrants into the UK in the boot of his car. It is understood he was stopped by Border Force officers at a UK checkpoint on the French side of the Channel Tunnel.

He was later charged and bailed but absconded. Charters was found following an 18-month police manhunt and sentenced to 29 months following his conviction. Police in Merseyside have now issued another 'wanted' appeal for the 42-year-old.

They said in a statement: "We are appealing for help in finding a 42-year-old man from Netherton who is wanted on a recall to prison for breach of his licence conditions. "Gavin Charters has breached his licence conditions following his release from prison after serving a sentence for assisting illegal immigration. "He is described as 6ft tall, with a broad build, hazel eyes and has an Irish accent.

He has links to Liverpool, Clacton-on-Sea and Northern Ireland.
