Prince Harry makes demands ahead of King Charles' Coronation …
In a recent interview, Prince Harry confirmed that he will be attending King Charles' Coronation while his wife, Meghan Markle, declined the invitation. Harry had made several demands to his father about attending the ceremony, but he didn't get his own way on some of the issues raised. Here are the demands and the outcomes, according to the Mirror:
Prince Harry to attend KIng Charles' May 6 coronation
- Talks with Charles - Yes Harry wanted to have a face-to-face meeting with his father and brother before agreeing to attend the Coronation.
Although they haven't met in person, Harry reportedly had a heart-to-heart talk with Charles, and both sides showed willingness to mend their relationship.
- Showdown with William - No Harry also wanted to speak to his brother, but they haven't spoken since the Queen's funeral. Organizers are reportedly keen to avoid any public rows between the two and will make sure they sit so far apart that cameras won't be able to get a direct shot of them together. William has also rejected Harry's demand for a meeting before the Coronation.
- Toxic atmosphere ends - No Harry made strong allegations against the Royal Family in his book Spare and his Netflix docu-series.
While he made it clear that he wouldn't attend the Coronation if there was going to be a toxic atmosphere, most royals reportedly have "no interest" in talking to Harry "beyond basic greetings," and he will have to come face-to-face with those he accused. Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie may be the only "exceptions."
- Meghan Markle invitation - Yes Despite tensions between the Sussexes and the royals, Meghan did get an invitation to the Coronation. However, she decided to stay in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Archie's fourth birthday, which falls on the same day as the Coronation, was said to have been a contentious issue and the main reason why Meghan declined the invitation.
- Archie's Birthday Recognition - Not Sure Despite being the grandchildren of the new King, it is believed that Archie and sister Lilibet were not invited, with sources citing that the children are "very young". "But the source explained that their inclusion in the ceremony has 'never been a bone of contention' because small children don't attend royal events of this scale 'due to restlessness and tantrums'," the source added.
- Security Arrangements - Yes Harry has been told he will be protected when attending events with the Royal Family over the Coronation weekend, as he was when returning for the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee in the summer and Her Majesty's funeral in September.
- Balcony Appearance - No "The final group of 15 shows the Prince and Princess of Wales will be there with their kids, but there is no place for non-working royals such as Harry or the disgraced Prince Andrew," reported The Mirror.
Rumours of Harry demanding to be included on the balcony are said to be "wide of the mark", according to some palace insiders.
