It was also noted that Rheinmetall is currently building an additional production line for medium-caliber ammunition at its plant in Unterluss, Lower Saxony, which will allow meeting heightened demand for air defense munitions starting this summer. As previously reported, the Rheinmetall company will, among others, produce 300,000 ammunition for the Gepard SPAAG, which Ukraine uses. They plan to supply 150,000 APDS-T armor-piercing discarding sabot and HEI-T high-explosive incendiary projectiles each.

The first APDS-T projectiles should be delivered in the summer of 2023. The transition of production from APDS-T to HEI-T is planned for mid-2024.
In addition, EU member states are currently negotiating to place an order to produce artillery ammunition for Ukraine worth EUR1 billion.
