Rude' Meghan Markle tipped to avoid Coronation as Harry flies solo
Meghan Markle has been branded "rude" to her husband for appearing to have not responded to the Royal Family's invitation to attend the Coronation as Prince Harry flies solo. Royal author Andrew Lownie believed that the Duke of Sussex could mirror the movements of his great-granduncle Edward VIII by returning alone to the Coronation in May. Harry and Meghan's lack of formal response to the Coronation invite issued earlier this year has sparked concerns Charles's youngest son may not attend the spectacle on May 6.

But since then, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's plans have not been confirmed, plunging their presence at the event into doubt.

Following the release of Harry's bombshell memoir Spare in January, those closest to the Royal Family had claimed the Duke of Sussex may be barred from attending the historic occasion, in which Charles will officially be crowned King. Instead of answering allegations made in the book, including Harry's description that Charles's wife Queen Camilla had been "cold" with him, the royals remained silent. Mr Lownie told Express.co.uk: "The Royal Family are keeping the high ground as they know public sympathy, certainly in the UK and increasingly in the US, is on their side and they want to keep it that way.
Not responding to the invitation is very rude."

He compared Harry's predicament to that of Edward VIII, also known as the Duke of Windsor, who famously stood down as monarch in 1936 to be with Wallis Simpson, a twice-divorced American woman. Edward and Wallis moved to France after their wedding the following year, in what many historians describe as a "banishment" by the Duke of Windsor's replacement, George VI. In the intervening years, and when George's daughter Queen Elizabeth II - Prince Harry's grandmother - ascended the throne in 1952, Edward began to carry out some duties for the crown, a role Mr Lownie believes the Duke of Sussex could maintain in the coming years.

The author added: "I suspect he will come without her - that is what tended to happen with Duke of Windsor - which will make it easier and may be part of the process of weaning him back within the fold."
Kinsey Schofield, a royal commentator and host of The To Di For Daily Podcast, argued the couple were most likely just keeping their decision in-house with other members of the Windsor clan. She told Express.co.uk this week: "Harry and Meghan have become increasingly private about their movements in and out of the UK due to security concerns. "I imagine that the palace has been informed that Harry and Meghan plan to attend the King's Coronation with the request of discretion to ensure safe travel."
