Sit To Check Edu Campuses For Drugs
RAJKOT: A special investigation team (SIT) was formed to investigate alleged cultivation on the campus of a private university on Rajkot-Morbi Road. On Thursday night, police recovered 23 plants of which 20 were uprooted and chopped.Deputy commissioner of police (zone-1) Sajjansinh Parmar told reporters that the forensic experts who were called to the spot prima facie did not find these plants having narcotic substances. "We will send the samples to the FSL Gandhinagar for further investigation. If a narcotic substance is found in the samples, we will register an offence against the responsible," Parmar said. The SIT comprises DCP (zone 1), ACP of crime branch, SOG police inspector and Kuvadva Road police station.
According to the sources, the alleged plantation was found near the boys' hostel in C-block.
The police believe that there is construction work ongoing where migrant labourers have been employed. There are farms very close to the college campus. "Even if we find narcotics substance, we have to verify who planted these.
We will book whoever is responsible, be it migrant workers, college management, teaching or non-teaching staff or student," Parmar added.
