Arrest after dawn raid A teenage boy was arrested after poliice carried out a dawn raid at a house today. Officers seized three phones, two balaclavas and a screwdriver from the property and arrested a 16-year-old.
The early morning warrant was executed as part of a plain clothed investigation by Bolton's Neighbourhood Priority Crime Team into lock snap burglaries at homes in the Westhoughton and Horwich areas of Bolton[1] targeting high value vehicles. Detective Sergeant Carla Deighton, of GMP's Bolton Neighbourhood Crime Team[2], said: "Our communities have the right to feel safe, especially in their own homes. "The fight against burglary[3] continues whilst our dedicated proactive teams focus on preventing and reducing this type of crime[4].
"Action like this shows the public that Greater Manchester Police[5] is committed to investigating crimes whilst keeping people safe and caring for victims."
Residents are urged to check doors are secure as burglars can break into homes by snapping locks. Lock snapping involves breaking a cylinder in two by applying force and exposing the internal mechanism. Police have offered tips to protect homes from lock snap burglaries:
oAdding additional locks to existing patio and French doors for extra security. oUpgrade euro cylinder locks to an anti-snap cylinder lock with a three start rating under TS 007 or an anti-snap cylinder which has a solid secure diamond standard. oConsider improving door handles as well and replace them with a two star rating under TS 007. oUse a reputable lock replacement company preferably with a Master Locksmiths Association accreditation (www.locksmiths.co.uk) oFit sash jammers to your doors, which have also been proven to prevent burglaries - but check this will not invalidate any warranty on existing doors.
