Brown Jr. is the U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff General, and he may replace General Milley, who was nominated for the post by former President Donald Trump in 2018. An announcement is expected to be made by July 2023, though according to the CNN sources the final timeline for the appointment is unknown.

"When President Biden makes a final decision, he will inform the person selected and then announce it publicly," a spokesperson for the National Security Council told Politico.

General Mark Milley will see his term expire at the end of September.

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff serves a four-year term. Though the chairman is the top-ranking officer in the military, the position does not foresee command of any troops. It is noted that Brown's reputation and command experience in both the Pacific and the Middle East made him the odds-on favorite to be Milley's heir apparent dating back to the Trump administration.

Gen. Charles Q. Brown, despite racial prejudice, was able to build a successful career as a military pilot, as he talked about in a video after the death of George Floyd in 2020.

At the core of Charles Brown's service is his flying career. He's biased toward the F-16A/B/C/D because those are what he flew the most in both training and combat. "There are so many times that I felt as if I was one with the F-16, and as a result, I was very confident in my abilities to fly and engage in most any situation," he says.

He has the right experience to keep the military focused on its top priority: China. As of 2020, Charles Q. Brown is the chief of the U.S.

Pacific Air Forces. Brown also commanded troops in the Middle East, as head of U.S. Air Forces Central Command.

Additionally, he was serving in Europe when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014. At the time, Brown served as a director of operations for strategic deterrence and nuclear integration at U.S. Air Forces in Europe.

His candidature was supported unanimously by the Senate for his current role as Air Force chief of staff in August, 2020.

Brown Jr. would become the top military adviser to a commander in chief who is balancing the China threat with the need to equip the Ukrainian military with military aid.
