Belgium sends €3.5 million worth of humanitarian aid to Ukraine following Kakhovka power plant explosion

Belgium's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday that urgent humanitarian aid would be provided to Ukraine to help deal with the aftermath of Russia's blowing up of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP). Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium Belgium will assist Ukraine through the government mechanism B-FAST, which is used to support foreign countries in crisis.

To help people affected by the floods, B-FAST is providing emergency aid in the form of shelter equipment (tents, mattresses, sleeping bags, jerry cans, hygiene kits). B-FAST transports all these relief items under European coordination. The value of the donation is EUR350,000.

In cooperation with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Belgium will provide medical equipment worth EUR1.6 million - medicines, medical products, drinking water storage tanks - and dehydrated meals for evacuees.

Based on an official request received via the European coordination mechanism, B-FAST has been tasked with purchasing generators worth EUR1.5 million and sending them to the areas affected by the floods. Finally, of the previously announced humanitarian aid package for Ukraine this year (EUR24 million), EUR7 million will go to the UN Humanitarian Fund for Ukraine.
