Russian floating dock sinks in Crimea

This was reported by a retired Ukrainian military officer who remained to live in the occupied city of Sevastopol. On the night of June 21, the PD-19 small floating dock of the Sevastopol Persey Shipyard, sank along with the pilot boat, which was docked for repair. This incident can also be confirmed by satellite images of the shipyard, in which one of the floating docks plunges.

The PD-19 floating dock was built in Bulgaria in 1941. It became part of the Soviet Black Sea Fleet in 1944. This is not the first time this dock has been flooded during its service life.

For example, on December 16, 1977, during the floating up, the dock broke into two parts and sank at a depth of 13 meters. Works to recover the dock were carried out from December 1977 to January 1978. Its restoration took place at the 13th Ship Maintenance Yard in Sevastopol.

As a result of the division of the Black Sea Fleet in 1997, the PD-19 floating dock left the Russian side.

It was removed from the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation in 2016 and transferred to the Persey Ship Repair Plant in Sevastopol. Between 2017 and 2018, the floating dock underwent repairs.

This is not the first case of floating docks flooding in Russia. As Militarnyi reported previously, on December 14, 2019, a floating dock with a decommissioned B-380 submarine, which was part of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, sank in occupied Sevastopol. The event occurred in the South Bay of Sevastopol.
