Artificial intelligence learns to identify Russian ships

Artificial intelligence can identify classes of ships and submarines in radar satellite images. The system has a level of accuracy of over 90 percent. Satim has demonstrated that their technology can identify the relevant classes of ships in the Russian base at Sevastopol, Crimea.

Using a SAR image taken by an Umbra Space-owned satellite, it clearly identifies ships. It is difficult for the human eye to recognize the type of vessels in a radar image because the silhouette can appear blurry, transparent, and certain details can overlap. Recently, Militarnyi reported that the Russians are painting the ships of the Black Sea Fleet in a new camouflage.
Since then, the Russians have painted the Admiral Grigorovich-class frigate and Admiral Makarov frigate. All three the Buyan-M class missile corvettes, minesweeper Ivan Golubets and anti-submarine corvette Muromets are also camouflaged.

Camouflage consists in painting the bow and stern parts of the vessel in a dark color, which can make visual identification difficult.
Of course, such camouflage is not capable of changing the silhouette of a ship on radar images.
