The Hetman Ivan Mazepa corvette should become part of the Navy of Ukraine in 2024. This was announced by the Commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Vice Admiral Oleksii Neizhpapa, in an interview with ArmyInform. The Ada-class corvette is currently being built in Turkey as scheduled.

"Everything continues in accordance with the plan, even faster. On the part of the state leadership there is support and understanding that we must build a powerful fleet and look to the future," Neizhpapa stressed. The Commander of the Navy adds that Ukraine should have such a navy, "which will no longer allow the invader to even think about attacking us again and looking towards our country."

"Therefore, the construction of ships such as the Hetman Ivan Mazepa corvette continues in accordance with the schedule and even a little ahead of it.

All weapons intended for the ship will be delivered in a timely manner, and next year this ship should become part of the Navy," said Oleksii Neizhpapa. As previously reported, on October 2, 2022, the first Ada-class corvette was launched in Turkey, which is being built for the Ukrainian Navy.

Corvette Hetman Ivan Mazepa

It was named after Hetman Ivan Mazepa, which was agreed back in 2021, when its construction began. This corvette will be the first ship of this class for the Ukrainian Navy.

The hull of the warship is made of steel, which before the full-scale war with Russia was made at the Illich Iron and Steel Works and Azovstal Metallurgical Combine.

The contract for the construction of two Ada-class corvettes was awarded by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine to Turkish companies in December 2020. The first corvette for the Ukrainian Navy was laid in Turkey in September 2021. And at the end of December, the ship's hull started being assembled at the shipbuilding enterprise in Istanbul.

The corvette will be equipped with a 76mm artillery system, cruise anti-ship missiles, MICA VL anti-aircraft missile system and other weapons, as well as electronic warfare equipment.

As earlier reported, for the construction of the second Ada-class corvette for the Ukrainian Navy in Turkey, steel has already been cut.
