Bulgaria does not rule out a clash between Russia and NATO in Black Sea

Source: Tagarev on the Bulgarian Nova TV channel, European Pravda Details: The head of the Bulgarian Defence Ministry commented on the recent incident with the Turkish cargo ship Sukru Okan which was detained in the Black Sea by the Russian military allegedly because it may have been carrying weapons for Ukraine.

"Russia is imposing its regimes and trying to aggressively impose its will," Tagarev said, recommending that ships pass through the territorial waters of Romania and Bulgaria to avoid incidents.

Answering whether a clash between NATO and Russia in the Black Sea is possible, he said: "We cannot rule out such an option. We are working to prevent this from happening. Russia is constantly provoking NATO."

  • The Russian Defence Ministry said that on the morning of 13 August, a Russian ship opened "warning" fire on the Sukru Okan, a bulk carrier that was heading for the port of Izmail in Odesa Oblast, Ukraine, under the flag of Palau.
