Farewell ceremony for pilot Juice held in Kyiv
A funeral ceremony is being held in Kyiv for a Ukrainian Air Force pilot, Andrii "Juice" Pilshchykov, who was tragically killed along with two other pilots in a plane crash in Zhytomyr Oblast on 25 August. - Andrii Pilshchykov, who went by the alias of Juice, and two other pilots were killed in a collision between two Ukrainian training aircraft in Zhytomyr Oblast on the evening of 25 August. The Vasylkiv Tactical Aviation Brigade reported that in addition to Andrii "Juice" Pilshchykov, Viacheslav Minka and Serhii Prokazin were killed in the 25 August crash in Zhytomyr Oblast.
- The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the plane crash.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that all the circumstances of the crash of training aircraft in Zhytomyr Oblast that killed three pilots would be established.
- The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) reported that technical malfunction of the aircraft, pilot error, and a violation of flight management procedures were being considered among the lines of enquiry concerning the investigation of the crash.
The crash occurred due to the collision of two planes during a turning manoeuvre.
For reference: Captain Andrii "Juice" Pilshchykov (born in Kharkiv) devoted eight years of his life to the Air Force. He had over 500 hours of flying time by the time the full-scale Russian invasion began. Including flying combat missions in difficult conditions.
He was decorated with many state and departmental awards. He was a pilot of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade of the Air Command Tsentr (Centre), the collective figure of the pilots of which was called the Ghost of Kyiv for their courageous actions in the defence of the capital and Kyiv Oblast from Russian aircraft. Pilshchykov was active in the Western media and lobbied for the provision of modern F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
