The court proved that in March 2022, one of the accused, a 38-year-old native of the Luhansk region, while in the city of Alchevsk in the temporarily occupied territory of the Luhansk region, voluntarily signed a military service contract with the illegal armed groups of the so-called Luhansk People's Republic.

The man was appointed to the position of assistant of the grenade launcher operator of the "204th regiment of the 4th company of the 3rd platoon of the People's Militia of the DPR", which was created, managed, and financed by the Russian Federation." Another accused, according to the Prosecutor General's Office, in February 2022, voluntarily signed a contract for military service in the so-called Donetsk People's Republic and was appointed as a rifleman of the "1st division of 2nd platoon of 2nd company of the rifle battalion of the people's militia of the DPR". Both defendants, while acting as part of different units in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, were arranging firing positions for armed resistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

They also occupied and guarded the territories of Ukraine temporarily seized by Russia. Solomiansky District Court of Kyiv found the men guilty of the crimes and sentenced them to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. In July, the court also sentenced a traitor who wanted to smuggle 700 tons of grain to Russia to 13 years in prison.
