Ukrainian Armed Forces hit the Pion self-propelled gun and two Tyulpan self-propelled mortars
21 August, 2023 Hit Russian Pion self-propelled guns and Tyulpan mortars. August 2023 Artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed the Russian Pion 203mm self-propelled gun and hit the Tyulpan 240mm self-propelled mortar in the Donetsk region.
Also, the Ukrainian military destroyed another 2S4 Tyulpan in the Luhansk region. The artillery installations of the Russian invaders were destroyed during the counter-battery struggle. Thus, in the Bakhmut direction, in the Donetsk region, the operators of the 3rd Separate Special Purpose Regiment of Ukraine spotted a 2S4 Tyulpan 240mm self-propelled mortar and a 2S7 Pion 203mm self-propelled gun during a reconnaissance of the area.

Heavy artillery of the Russians operate against the positions of the Ukrainian defenders. The SOF's operators transferred the coordinates of the identified enemy targets of the artillery to the Defense Forces and adjusted its fire.

The Russians deployed a firing position for the 2S4 Tyulpan near the forest belt between the fields. A Ukrainian reconnaissance drone detected a self-propelled mortar and filmed the Ukrainian artillery attacking it.
The Russian 240mm self-propelled mortar was hit in an attempt to hide in a disguised position between the trees, where a Ukrainian shell was directed. In turn, the Pion 203mm self-propelled gun was destroyed by an accurate strike conducted by the Ukrainian artillery.
Judging by the footage, a precision munition was used. Presumably, the Ukrainian military used a M31A1 rocket from the ?142 HIMARS. The Russian self-propelled gun immediately caught fire due to the accurate strike.

Another Russian 2S4 Tyulpan self-propelled mortar was spotted by air reconnaissance operators of the 100th Territorial Defense Brigade and a unit of the National Police combined battalion "West" in the Luhansk region, according to preliminary data, near the village of Kreminna.
