Ukraine's Foreign Ministry denies allegation of planning to “overthrow” Polish government

On Monday 25 September, Oleh Nikolenko, spokesman of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, denied the comments of a correspondent of the Polish TVP TV channel about an alleged promise of Germany and France to ensure Kyiv's imminent accession to the EU in exchange for "overthrowing" the Polish government.  Source: Nikolenko on Facebook, as reported by European Pravda Details: The comments in question are that of Dominika Cosic, the Brussels correspondent of the Polish TVP public channel, which she tweeted on Monday.

According to Cosic, sources in Brussels "unofficially reported" about a promise by Berlin and Paris of Ukraine's quick ascension to the EU on the condition of Kyiv "helping to overthrow the current Polish government," because "without changing the treaties, the EU cannot be expanded, and it is Poland that blocks these changes".

The Foreign Ministry spokesman said the information was untrue and Kyiv "categorically rejects such insinuations". Quote: "Ukraine has not received any such proposals and has never had any intentions of interfering in the internal affairs of Poland. Moreover, Ukraine highly appreciates Poland's support in repelling Russian aggression, supporting our path to EU and NATO membership," Nikolenko added.

He also stressed that only the day before, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented state awards to Poles in gratitude for solidarity with Ukrainians. "We are convinced that the efforts to undermine the high level of respect and cooperations of our peoples have failed. We urge our Polish friends not to succumb to attempts of provocation, to work together to effectively counter common challenges," the speaker of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry concluded.

The grain crisis has recently put relations between Ukraine and Poland under enormous strain. Poland reacted angrily to Zelenskyy's speech at the UN, and Ukraine has responded similarly to the Polish president's recent remarks comparing Ukraine to a drowning man and the prime minister's statement on arms supplies.
