NASAMS launchers supplied by Lithuania arrive in Ukraine

Lithuania has confirmed that it has sent two launchers for NASAMS medium-range anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine. Source: European Pravda, with reference to a statement by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defence on 10 November Arvydas Anusauskas, Minister of National Defence of Lithuania, said the NASAMS launchers "will be integrated in fire control units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, building on the operational capability composed of NASAMS donated by the United States and Norway".

We hear Ukraine's needs well and encourage the Allies to do the same." In June, the Defence Materiel Agency under Lithuania's Defence Ministry signed a contract with Norwegian company Kongsberg to purchase NASAMS launchers. Ukrainian troops underwent comprehensive training before the launchers were delivered.

Along with the NASAMS launchers, Lithuania has also provided high-mobility vehicles that NASAMS crews need. The Norwegian Defence Ministry has provided an additional package for maintenance of the systems. So far Lithuania has provided about half a billion euros' worth of military aid for Ukraine.

Lithuania plans to allocate EUR340 million for aid for Ukraine in its 2024 budget.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced earlier this week that the new NASAMS air defence systems are now being used in combat.
