Presidents of Ukraine and Moldova congratulate each other on historic decision of European Commission

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of Moldova Maia Sandu had a telephone conversation in which they exchanged congratulations on the recommendation of the European Commission to begin negotiations on the accession of both countries to the EU. More details: Zelenskyy noted that in addition there was talk of implementing the peace formula proposed by Ukraine and that he thanked Sandu for the participation of the representative of Moldova in the last meeting of advisers in Malta. They also spoke about Ukraine's assistance in evacuating Moldovan citizens from Gaza, Maia Sandu repeated her gratitude for Kyiv's assistance in this process.

Background:

In a report published on 8 November, the European Commission recommended that EU states start accession negotiations with Ukraine, but Kyiv must implement further reforms.
The Commission also recommended opening negotiations with Moldova, but, as in the case of Ukraine, with conditions.
As for Georgia, the EC supported granting it the status of a candidate for accession, provided that Tbilisi fulfills a number of steps.
