The Security Service of Ukraine reported about this on the official website. According to the investigation, the detainee was actively engaged in self-promotion and intended to become a potential candidate for People's Deputies of Ukraine. In order to implement this plan, the detainee joined a local NGO dealing with environmental issues and placed his political advertisements on several passenger buses running around the city.

He received funding for both of his projects from the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation. Separately, he requested a monthly remuneration of 5.500 USD. In addition, he was engaged in intelligence activities and searched for and recorded the locations of air defense systems and coastal defense systems, including anti-ship systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
SSU officers detained the suspect while he was performing an additional reconnaissance of the area near one of the Ukrainian facilities. According to the investigation, the detained local resident was remotely recruited by the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation in October 2023. He received an operational nickname "Mazepa" from the Russians.
The detainee purchased a hidden camera on the black market to take photos and videos of the necessary objects. He transmitted the relevant material through messengers, and for better concealment, he did it each time from different accounts and phones. Subsequently, he wrote an official application to join the Russian political party "United Russia" and, in case of the seizure of the region, planned to join the leadership of the Russian occupation administration.

A search of the detainee's residence revealed a cell phone with evidence of communication with the aggressor. Also, bottles with Molotov cocktails and an application to join a pro-Putin political party were seized from him. Based on the evidence collected, SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Art.
111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). He is currently in custody. He faces life imprisonment.
As Militarnyi previously reported, the SSU counterintelligence detained a Russian agent who worked for the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.
The perpetrator was passing information to the enemy about the deployment of units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the frontline areas of the Donetsk region and in Kramatorsk.
