SSU detains GRU agent who adjusted strikes in Mykolaiv

Photo credits: SSU The SSU counterintelligence detained another agent of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation who was reconnoitering the positions and routes of movement of the equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Security Service of Ukraine reported about this on the official website. The main task of the detainee was to reconnoiter possible locations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as to reconnoiter the locations of air defense systems in the Mykolaiv region. To fulfill this task, he received an advance of 10 thousand hryvnias on his own bank card from Russians.

The following transactions were to be made as the necessary information was provided to the aggressor, namely the coordinates of the base and movement of the Ukrainian Defense Forces' equipment. The intelligence was used by the Russians to prepare new and adjust repeated strikes on the region using missiles and Shahed-type kamikaze drones. After completing all the tasks assigned by the enemy, the detainee was promised to be evacuated to the left-bank part of the Kherson region, where his parents live.

The SSU officers managed to establish his location and residence and detained him while he was passing reconnoitered information to the enemy.

According to the investigation, the detainee is a local resident who was remotely recruited by Russian military intelligence through his relatives. They live in the temporarily occupied part of Kherson region and have been cooperating with the Russian special service for a long time.

On the instructions of the invaders, the relatives gave the detainee a contact with a Russian GRU officer and the conditional phrases used as a password to establish communication with the invaders. During the search, a cell phone used by the detainee to communicate with the aggressor was seized. Based on the evidence collected, SSU investigators served the detainee a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Art.

111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). He is currently in custody. He faces life imprisonment.

As Militarnyi previously reported, the SSU counterintelligence conducted a special operation to detain an FSB agent in Odesa who was planning to conduct sabotage in the region.

According to the investigation, the detainee was actively engaged in self-promotion and intended to become a potential candidate for People's Deputies of Ukraine.
