THALES Delivers Ground Master 200 Radar to Moldova

A French Ground Master 200 mobile aerial target detection radar by Thales Group has been delivered to Moldova. The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova reported that the radar was transported to the capital by air. The radar acquisition was funded through the defense budget via a French company, which provided information and logistical support.

The Minister of Defense highlighted the importance of this system in enhancing the air defense capabilities of Moldova. The estimated cost of one radar with related equipment is approximately EUR14.5 million.

Ground Master 200 provides detection of air targets within a radius of up to 250 kilometers and at an altitude of up to 24 kilometers. The radar can detect helicopters, planes, drones, cruise missiles, surface targets, and even enemy artillery. The system has the format of a 20-foot ISO container and weighs less than ten tons.

It includes an electric generator, a mast, and a room for two workstations with a radio and data communications kit.

The radar can be transported by trucks, trains, cargo planes, and helicopters. The Ground Master 200 can be deployed in 15 minutes and operated both remotely and by the crew on site.

In January 2023, it became known that France would allocate funds for the purchase of GM200 radar for Ukraine.
