Fourth Stage of Fortifications Begins in Sumy Region to Enhance Defense

The Sumy Regional Military Administration reports this on its Facebook page. "In line with the directive from the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine, we are strengthening the defensive capabilities of the frontlines in the Sumy region," stated Vladimir Artyukh, Head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration. Currently, 5 clients overseeing the work and 11 contractors, distributed across all districts of the Sumy region, are engaged in constructing fortification structures.

Last year, the Sumy region built fortifications at the expense of the regional and local budgets, but this year the state joined the process. The construction of the fortifications is being carried out at the expense of the state budget, in accordance with Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No.

1415 of December 29, 2023. Today, all the necessary procedures are being carried out to conclude contracts for the continuation of such work, with the relevant requirements for the timing and quality of work.

"The project is large-scale, so Lviv and Ternopil regions and the city of Kyiv have come to help the Sumy region. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the State Agency for Reconstruction and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine also provide their contractors. I am confident that we will fulfill all the tasks set," said Artiukh.

Militarnyi previously reported that the Ukrainian government had allocated UAH 17.5 billion for the construction of fortifications. The funds will be allocated for the construction of engineering and fortification structures, relevant equipment, and non-lethal fencing systems. At the beginning of December 2023, it was reported about the construction of fortifications in Shostka district in the Sumy region.

As previously reported, Lieutenant General Serhiy Naiev, Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, presented the process of constructing defensive structures and barrier lines on the northern borders near Russia.
