Russians have shown a 1500-kilogram guided bomb

Russian propagandists demonstrated a FAB-1500 with an UMPK (unified gliding and correction module - ed.) bomb kits. The news was published by Russian media. During an exponential inspection of the military-industrial complex of the JSC Tactical Missiles Corporation in the Moscow Region, delegations led by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu demonstrated a FAB-1500-?54 guided bomb.

The manufactured bomb is equipped with a new version of the UMPK kit, designed specifically for this bomb. It is responsible for increasing the range and guidance at satellite coordinates.

The UMPK-1500 kit depicted in the photo differs from models of other 250/500 caliber bomb series in size and design. It received larger wings and new algorithms for the operation of control surfaces in order to ensure a high range at this weight.

In addition, the bomb itself received an overhead airfoil round shape that should improve its aerodynamic characteristics. FAB-1500-54 is an unguided high-explosive bomb of the 1954 model. Its weight is 1550 kilograms, of which 675 kg is occupied by an explosive (TNT).

It is designed to strike industrial, urban, port facilities and other typical targets when bombing from altitudes up to 16,000 m with a flight speed of up to 1200 km/h.

Currently, information about possible range and parameters of their launch remains unknown. However, it can be said that their carriers will be Su-34 and Su-24 front-line bombers, which are capable of carrying one bomb on the ventral hardpoint. Obviously, the Russian military assumes that the new ammunition will be used to fight fortifications and well-fortified positions of the Ukrainian military on the front lines.

Russia started working on the adaptation of flight control modules for 1500 kilogram bombs at the beginning of last year.

In early September 2023, it became known about the first attempts to use them on the battlefield.

It is worth noting that Russian aerial bombs from the UMPK are known for their frequent abnormal release during the flight that has repeatedly led to consequences, including the fall of bombs on Belgorod.
