A frame from a video by KARYMAT The Ukrainian military hit the new Russian 1?148 Yastreb-AV counter-battery radar system in the Kherson region. To hit the radar system, the military used an American ?142 HIMARS rocket launcher.
The fire on the radar system was adjusted due to a reconnaissance drone that followed the Russians. As a result, HIMARS was able to accurately hit this Russian system with two GMLRS missiles. Recently, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that units of the Russian invasion forces received the Yastreb-AV counter-battery radar system for service.
The characteristics of the 1?148 Yastreb-AV counter-battery radar system were not made public. The Russian army adopted it not so long ago: the tests were completed in late 2021 or early 2022.
The radar system with phased antenna arrays is able to automatically track the trajectory of shells fired by enemy artillery, determining the exact coordinates of fire positions. The 1?148 Yastreb-AV system is placed on a four-seater BAZ-6910-025 chassis. The rear part of the chassis is allocated for the placement of an antenna post with a large area array.
