The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported on this. At a meeting in Kyiv, officials of the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Strategic Industries of Ukraine, and the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration discussed the financial terms and obligations of Ukraine to participate in the project, as well as the terms, conditions, and mechanism for purchasing combat vehicles. In January 2024, the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration received permission from its government to prepare a deal to supply Ukraine with CV90 infantry fighting vehicles.

"This agreement will make it possible not only to carry out a one-time supply of weapons but also to organize broad cooperation in the defense industry, including the localization of part of the production in Ukraine in the future," Dmytro Klimenkov, Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine, shared. In December 2023, Militarnyi reported that Denmark and Sweden announced a new military aid package for Ukraine, which included additional CV90 IFVs. It was noted that Denmark would initially contribute DKK 1.8 billion (about £264 million), which would help fund the production of a certain number of CV90 infantry fighting vehicles for Ukraine.

Sweden would support the procurement within an agreement signed between the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) and Ukraine in July last year.

CV90 for Ukraine

In February 2023, the Swedish government allocated one of its largest military aid packages to Ukraine, which included CV90 infantry fighting vehicles for the first time. Ukraine was to receive 51 CV9040C infantry fighting vehicles from Sweden, which were previously used by Swedish troops in Liberia and Afghanistan. Compared to the standard CV90, the 9040C version has a higher level of protection.

After that, Ukrainian military and technicians went to Sweden to study the operation of combat vehicles and how to maintain them. In August, Ukraine and Sweden declared their intention to jointly produce CV90 infantry fighting vehicles in Ukraine. Ukraine has expressed interest in purchasing up to 1,000 of these infantry fighting vehicles.
