Ukrainian Special Forces Eliminate Russian Palantin EW System

11 March, 2024 The Russian Palantin EW system, March 2024. Ukrainian troops destroyed the Russian Palantin EW system in the Zaporizhzhia sector. The press service of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on it.

During the reconnaissance, the operators of the 3rd separate regiment of the Special Operations Forces (SOF) discovered the Russian Palantin EW system. The SOF stated that the Russian invaders were conducting electronic reconnaissance and interfering with Ukrainian communication systems in this area. Ukrainian soldiers transmitted the coordinates and guided the HIMARS rocket system to the target, which successfully destroyed it.

The first strike missed the electronic warfare station, allowing two Russian soldiers to escape, but the next missile eliminated the enemy EW system with a direct hit.

The Palantin is a new and rare Russian system that has been defeated only a few times during the full-scale Russian invasion. According to an Oryx analytical report, today's loss is expected to be the third for the entire period. In February 2023, the aerial reconnaissance unit and artillerymen of the 128th Mountain Assault Brigade destroyed the Russian Palantin-K electronic warfare system in the Zaporizhzhia sector with precision fire.

The Russian Palantin-K system was filmed by a Ukrainian Leleka-100 UAV in the Zaporizhzhia region, February 13, 2023.

Palantin EW system

Palantin is one of the latest developments in the Russian defense industry, adopted only in 2019.

The system was developed by the Sozvezdye concern, which specializes in manufacturing high-tech intelligent command and communication systems, electronic warfare equipment, and other special weapons. Palantin-K is mounted on the KamAZ truck chassis. It is designed to suppress radio communication systems and conduct electronic reconnaissance.

The capabilities of the system allow jamming electronic systems of the enemy in the shortwave bands. The manufacturer assures that Palantin can create various types of obstacles to navigation systems and deprive the enemy of cellular and trunking communications. The system is credited with the ability to launch targeted attacks to disable the air defense radar or the command and control system.

The Palantin system is quite versatile. If necessary, it is possible to involve other EW and radio-electronic intelligence devices such as Moskva, Zhytel, and others in its system. Such a system should increase the efficiency of all means involved in it.

One of the main tasks of the system is to combat enemy UAVs.

The manufacturer indicates the range of effective use against UAVs at a distance of 20 kilometers.
