The participants made it clear to the Hungarian representative that they did not believe the explanations provided by Budapest and considered Orban's actions as breaking the rules.

Only one delegation from Slovakia, whose government is now an ally of Hungary, did not take the floor while the rest of the ambassadors made a speech to express their indignation with a series of trips that occurred since the beginning of Hungary's presidency in the EU on 1 July. The Hungarian representative stated that during his trips Orban did not present the EU's position, and the EU rules do not regulate whether the leader has to warn other member states about his foreign trips. Europa Press reports that no decisions were adopted at the meeting and no specific measures were suggested in response.

The sources confirmed that the shortening of the term of Hungary's presidency in the EU the media had reported about earlier was not discussed at the meeting.

Several EU countries consider the possibility of boycotting informal meetings on the ministers' level, which Hungary planned to hold during its presidency.
