Yurii Belousov, Head of the Department for Combating Crimes Committed in the Context of Armed Conflict in the Prosecutor General's Office, stated this in his interview with Ukrinform news agency. According to him, this number includes those killed in Olenivka prison. Belousov also added that the International Criminal Court is working with Ukrainian investigators to investigate torture and ill-treatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russian prisons.

According to him, the torture of Ukrainian POWs in Russian detention centers is becoming systemic and shows that it is an integral part of Russia's policy.

Ukrainian investigators are currently collecting evidence from places where torture is most common. As previously reported, on March 26, the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine presented a report in which, among other things, it recorded the executions of at least 32 Ukrainian prisoners of war in 12 separate cases between December 2023 and February 2024, which is "significantly more than in any of the previous periods."

The UN also confirms information about Russian violence against residents of the occupied territories of Ukraine. This includes the killing of civilians, arbitrary detentions and restrictions on freedom of expression.

In March, the Security Service of Ukraine served a notice of suspicion to a captured Russian invader of shooting a Ukrainian prisoner of war in the Zaporizhzhia region.

In April, another Russian war crime was recorded when the Russian invaders shot unarmed Ukrainian soldiers in the Kherson region.
