Santa Barbara Sistemas has completed the repair of ten Leopard 2A4 tanks that Spain will supply to Ukraine. Infodefensa media reported that nine more tanks will be ready by September 2024. The company prepared the tanks at its facilities in Alcala de Guadaira, Seville.
Last year, Santa Barbara Sistemas repaired a batch of ten units that were shipped to Ukraine in two stages - in April and September. The new group of ten tanks is part of the 19 tanks promised by the Spanish government in March 2024.

The repair work was completed in a record three months, and by the end of June, the Leopard tanks were ready for delivery. The delivery to Ukraine is expected to take place in the near future.
Tanks, both from the first and this batch, have undergone a series of field tests to verify the serviceability of their equipment and systems. The Leopard 2A4 tanks for the Ukrainian army came from the army barracks in Zaragoza, where they had been stored inoperable since 2012. Unlike the first batch, these machines were in worse condition, requiring more thorough maintenance.
This will bring the total number of Leopard 2 tanks delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine to 29.

It should be noted that Spain began receiving Leopard 2 tanks under a lease contract in 1995 for training purposes and then decided to purchase some of them.
As of today, about 60 tanks remain at the storage base in Zaragoza, of which 10 have already been transferred to Ukraine and 19 are awaiting transfer.
