Ukraine's national Olympic team squad in Paris: smallest number of participants in recorded history

The 23rd Summer Olympic Games will take place in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024.

10,714 athletes from 206 countries will compete for medals in 32 sports. A total of 329 sets of awards will be there for the taking. Ukraine will be represented in Paris by the smallest number of athletes in its history.

140 athletes will take part in 26 events. The largest number of participants, 25, is in athletics, and the smallest is in badminton - just one. The Ukrainian national football team will take part in the Olympic Games for the first time.

By the way, the Olympic football tournament will start today, on 24 July. The Ukrainian national team will play against Iraq in the opening match. The Paris Olympics will be the 6th Olympic Games for Olena Kostevych, a master of bullet shooting.

Kostevich is a champion at the Olympic Games in Athens (2004) and a multiple medallist at the main sporting events of the last quadrennial. In addition, this is the 5th Olympics for Olha Kharlan, the champion of Beijing Olympics 2008.

Ukrainian athletes won 19 medals (1 gold, 6 silver and 12 bronze) at the previous games in Tokyo and placed 44th in the medal standings, which is the lowest in Ukraine's history. The state pays champions and prize-winners a considerable amount of money, which is much higher than, for example, in the United States.

The Ukrainian national team includes 18 Olympic medallists of different years and 6 Olympic champions.
