Bribe of US$500,000: Security Service of Ukraine releases intercepted conversations of Deputy Energy Minister

Advertisement:"According to the case file, in exchange for a bribe of US£500,000, the official, [ab]using his powers, promised the heads of state-owned enterprises of the Lviv-Volyn coal basin to freely transfer mining equipment from the mines on the line of contact area of Donetsk Oblast for their use," the SSU wrote in a statement.
The SSU also notes that the equipment in question is unique and scarce for one of the state-owned coal companies located in the hotspot of the line of contact, on the Pokrovsk front. Background:
Advertisement:- On 12 August, the High Anti-Corruption Court imposed a pre-trial restraint on former Deputy Energy Minister Oleksandr Heilo, who was detained for taking the mentioned bribe. He was sent to custody until 8 October with the right to be released on bail in the amount of UAH 25 million (US£605,000).
- On 12 August, the Security Service of Ukraine and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau uncovered a corruption scheme organised by the Deputy Energy Minister.
The UP's sources said Oleksandr Heilo was detained in Kyiv on taking the bribe of US£500,000.
